An Insulinoma is a tumor of the pancreas that comes from the beta cells which secrete insulin hormone into the blood. Due to the presence of the tumor, secretion of insulin is not properly regulated by glucose concentrations in the blood. This results in an excessive production of hormone insulin. This makes insulinoma is one of the leading causes of hypoglycemia. More than 90% of these tumors which form in the pancreas are non-cancerous.
